Margarita Checa’s sculptures have the power to deeply touch every one of their spectators. The delicacy of their lines and the realism of their expressions stand out as attributes that only few sculptors attain to convey through their work.

This is how the 25-year-old-experience Peruvian artist manages to capture in her recent exhibition – “Beginnings” – that sense of insight when new incursions are about to begin. This exhibition – whose reception opened yesterday (Thursday) at the Arteconsult Gallery – comprises nine figurative sculptures that reveal the passion of the artist for the human figure.  Made of olive wood and bronze, Checa’s masterpieces evoke some sort of a drama that reflect the artist’s mood for what surrounds her.

“The name – “Beginnings” – inspired in one of the sculptures that belongs to the collection, expresses the ability of the human one of her sculptures encompasses a particular concept, but when they are put together, they reflect a great part of her inner-self.  There is a lot of symbolism in her work, which she gives form as it flows in her mind.

“I don’t really keep a certain style when

I carve; I prefer to develop new methods though,

Which means that I’m going forward”, she adds.

“It is just in this process of transformation when

new needs emerge setting the grounds to experimentation”,

she explains. Margarita Checa’s exhibition

“Beginnings” is open to the public, and runs through

November 19th, at the Arteconsult Gallery.
